Abstract

Characteristics of migraine headache in patients seen at medical center in University of Extremo Sul Catarinense since 2004 to 2009

According to the World Health Organization, the migraine-type headache is the 19th disease that causes more disability. Seek to estimate the profile of migraine headache in patients seen at Medical Center at University of Extremo Sul Catarinense from 2004 to 2009. It is characterized as a study cross-sectional, census, observational, documentary, and descriptive. Our sample included 93 individuals, revealing the predominance of migraine without aura with the following features which occurred in 84.6% of women, 30.2% had completed high school, 39.8% of married and 46.9% with daily crises. In the stratified sample is observed that 25.84% of the patients had daily headache, 58.24% owned headache without aura, 86.96% were women, 97.73% race / skin color white, 33.7% with low education , with 64.52% unmarried, 28.26% aged over 36 years, 33.33% had triggers social and / or psychological and 25.84% cardiovascular comorbidity. This study suggest that a better-educated population in question could improve the knowledge of this comorbidity, as well as improve understanding of the efficient control of migraine attacks.
